First stop Godafoss - the waterfall of the gods

Then we went through the toll tunnel and on to Akureyri, where a couple of cruise ships had just arrived and put us off completely.

We had a bit of a wander around for a while

We found the botanical gardens and it was such a contrast to the barren moonscapes we've seen in recent times. Beautiful!

Alison looked at the Nonni's house museum and church while Phillip and Malcolm looked at the museum (it was up a big hill and I didn't feel like walking up it - not a good knee morning)

Decided to keep going for a late lunch at Dalvic. A quirky little cafe that only had soup on the menu (with bread and salad) plus cakes/biscuits etc. Malcolm had fish and I had vegetable soup and Phillip had giant biscuits.

The Siglufjordur Herring Museum was a lot more interesting than it sounded.

There was also a little folk music museum with some interesting instruments

We went through several one lane tunnels - with passing places on our side of the road which could be a bit hairy if there had been more traffic around. You have to guess whether you have enough ice to get to the next passing place before the car you can see coming the other way.

Then we kept going to our accommodation for tonight beside the Skagafjordur Fjiord, rather spectacular!

Finally arrived at our hotel which has an amazing view across a wide delta, in time for dinner with interesting decorations
