Aah Vienna!

Kieran returned to London and we’ve gone on to Vienna. At the airport we saw our first robot waiter (not a new phenomenon but the first time we’ve seen one in action).

We have a studio apartment in a nice apparently gay friendly area which would be perfect except for the roadworks outside out door. Don’t know exactly what they are doing but they are digging a very deep hole and start making noise quite early.

Today we started getting around with the help of google maps - with a few arguments along the way as we get used to working out the best options. It’s not foolproof, as we proved a couple of times after walking some distance and finding that we could have caught a tram, but we’re getting the hang of it and have a 2 day public transport ticket.

After going to the central station to sort out tickets for our trip to Bratislava (and walking a lot further than necessary looking for a ticket office when Phillip wouldn’t wait for me to look at the ticket machine to find a long queue and we ended up getting the tickets very easily from a machine outside the booking office) we made our way to the Hundertwasser Museum. An interesting quirky building with (very) uneven floors and lots of colourful artwork showing his work over many years.

There was also a temporary exhibition and a quirky handrail on the stairs.

Then we found the nearby Hundertwasser building before making our way back to our apartment

We saw lots during our tram rides. We’ve been to Vienna before and seen all the usual sights but had forgotten just how many very grand buildings there are.

And its amazing what else you can buy when you get your chocolate fix from a vending machine.

A visit to Vienna wouldn’t be complete without a Wienerschnitzel! (With fun Bar stools) (and no I didn’t eat it all - I managed one piece, Phillip had half of the other and I brought the rest home for tomorrow!)
