After a last game of soccer with the dog and a goodbye to the coos, we left Fawlty Towers and set off to Berenay to catch the ferry to the next island - Harris.
From the ferry we headed south to see St Clements church, originating in the 1500's, - rebuilt 200 years later, suffered damage in a fire and restored in 1873.
Many interesting headstones in the graves surrounding the church and a woman told us a story about the stone fence. Seemingly the man who built the fence did it to honour a local woman and when it was finished asked her to marry him. She refused as she was already married to a seaman who was out at sea. The fence builder built in a flower and a broken heart.
We the set off up the east coast to a gallery we had been told about by a fellow guest who lived on Harris. A very narrow road with lots of bends (but very picturesque)
The gallery was had some interesting things but we didn't buy anything. Had a good chat to the owner/artist who had lived for some years in Australia.
Then we headed inland on another narrow road with much attention being needed to avoid the animals until we emerged onto the west coast. Had lunch overlooking a lovely Aussie style beach complete with people surfing.
Continued on to Tarbet where we are stopping for the night, via a gin distillery! Of course! A short stroll along the harbour after dinner.
