Harris to Lewis

We set off to find the lighthouse at Scalpay. A variety of roads but mostly single lane with passing places that got progressively narrower. A bit hairy and sobering when we saw the upside down vehicle with police tape around its wheels. We found where the parking for the lighthouse was but decided not to do the hike to it and came back along those roads again.

But we did find a lovely little Harris Tweed weaver and she very kindly demonstrated her machinery and explained the complicated process to us. Her designs and colours were lovely but nothing grabbed me enough to make a purchase. They have their own sheep and her brother in law showed me his two rams, which he thinks are very cute. Akross and Tim are their names.

We passed through North Harris to Lewis and went up the West coast. Next stop was the Calanais Standing stones.

Then the Gerrannan Blackhouse Village. Hard to believe that it's not very long since people were living there.

We also stopped at a well preserved Broch.

Then on to our hotel at Borve. Luxury to be staying at one place for three nights. Our waiter wanted to talk about Australia. His dream is to become an Electrical Engineer and move to Australia.
