Travelled by bullet train from Odawara to Nagoya and then on to Takayama. As there isn’t much room on bullet trains we packed an overnight bag and our suitcases will arrive tomorrow.
On arrival we went to see Takayama Jinya which was a branch office of the Edo Bakufu (government) during the Shogunate. It is the only remaining building of its kind in Japan. Autumn colours are now appearing
Then we had a wander around part of the old town The old buildings are now mostly touristy shops but it was quaint just the same Malcolm and Phillip decided on Ninja head scarves.
Checked into our hotel to Super Deluxe rooms with real beds and pillows and carpet on the floor and then went to a great little restaurant found by Malcolm which was run by a Japanese couple but had a Chinese overtone and enjoyed a lovely meal. They were extremely friendly and the chef even went and found us a taxi to go back to the hotel. The bonus was that it was very inexpensive!
